Machine Age Modern

Once focused on the first machine age (the interwar period when technology turned furniture sleek and aerodynamic), this Leslieville stronghold now shows little from that period, except, say, a deco-esque tea set in steel and Bakelite from designer Walter von Nesson ($350). The constantly changing stock hails largely from the ’20s to ’80s, and might include such pieces as a Saarinen-designed Tulip dining set by Knoll ($1,950) or an L-shaped George Nelson desk ($3,500). Typical finds might include original Knoll sofas that have great bones, and a pair of ’60s acrylic chairs ($2,200) with clear sides and snappy black and white houndstooth cushions.
