Dealer Robert Gilbert has been on the King East strip since 1986. His spacious showroom is largely filled with goods from Italian manufacturer Bonaldo. This year brings designs by Karim Rashid: curvaceous Skoop stools ($395) offer little hits of colour, while the white Kalm bed ($8,745) and white Dragonfly chaise ($3,575) are both swoopy and restful. Stacking chairs designed by Dondoli and Pocci feature solid die-cast aluminum frames and seats in shocking red polycarbonate ($675). Gilbert favours colour and wit, even in a tiny table lamp: Spinne, designed by D’Urbino and Lomazzi ($645 for two), hangs a halogen bulb from a spider-like frame.
