If you are fond of furniture that tells a story—a 19th-century Chinese apothecary cabinet with the names of herbs written on its drawers ($9,700) or a theatrical French chandelier made of deer antlers (from $3,500)—then do like the city’s designers and check out Jill Kantelberg’s store. On one visit, it was easy to imagine Carole Lombard seated at a lovely 1930s Italian vanity with a pristine high-gloss wood polish ($5,300), or lounging on re-editions of 1940s sitting chairs ($2,100 each) among many deco-style items. The ceiling is covered in period chandeliers ($3,000–$8,000).
