Customers descend a metal-rail staircase before entering an enormous room with soaring ceilings and grand chandeliers. Inside, continental pieces from every era are stacked into seemingly endless rows. The selection can be overwhelming—under one roof, you might find everything from a faux bamboo armoire ($2,200) to an 18th-century-château carved walnut stunner ($43,000)—but staff can help you to navigate the maze. To simplify the search, all items are photographed and filed; staff can e-mail pics of the stock. Be sure to check out the network of rooms upstairs, with space dedicated to garden pieces and statuary. The Vault displays fine furniture and smaller decorative accessories behind locked doors—staff need to let shoppers in.
