When sunlight shimmers on the hardwood floor, this 102-year-old rug shop seems more like a gallery. The hundreds of neatly stacked rugs are aesthetically pleasing, too. Prices vary according to weave (coarse or fine), material (wool, cotton or silk) and country of origin (including Pakistan, India, China, Iran and Tibet). An extra-fine eight-by-five-foot Tabriz Persian rug in splendid jewel tones is $5,350; an elaborate red wool-silk blend (nine by 12 feet) is $8,800. European wall tapestries ($400–$6,000) and a selection of Crossley wall-to-wall carpeting round out the shop’s stellar collection. And, when a Hoover isn’t delicate enough for your cherished rug, cleaning and restoration services are also available.
