Michael Angus, a designer for Toronto’s well-to-do, clearly has the mind of a set designer. Here, he’s created a cinematic vision that fuses the look of old money with the sheen of new fashion. Throughout a series of rooms, you’ll see beautiful glass chandeliers overhead, and gilt-framed antique sketches or perhaps a threadbare Union Jack on the walls. Angus mingles time periods to make the vignettes come alive, with a “hip traditional” combination that blends auction-sourced antiques and reproductions (as in an elegant Regency-style cabinet in rosewood, $8,350; or a nickel wall sconce with a small white linen shade and a print of American federalist arrows, $495) with his streamlined collection of newly made furniture (spare neutral sofas, well priced at $2,595 to $4,500). Mixed in are strong masculine accents, such as cowhide rugs (from $650).
