Space Furniture

Take some raw materials (steel, solid and veneered woods, acrylics, glass), add a few avant-garde artists, throw in a hip Queen East address, and presto: you’ve got a funky modern design firm. Though every piece in this offbeat store is for sale, the space essentially functions as a showroom designed to stimulate design ideas for customized furniture that staff will construct. Inspired by a modern contemporary sensibility, the Evolving Surface steel coffee table with a rustic elegant top costs $500 to $700. Funky mirrors in bright colours include a pink sun and a blue martian ($225); a curved wood bench with stainless steel legs ($695) is a futuristic piece. Plain stainless steel shelves ($50–$70 per linear foot) can be customized to fit any space. Expert Space staff will design whatever floats your boat.
