Space Furniture

Take some raw materials (steel, solid and veneered woods, acrylics, glass), add a few avant-garde artists, and presto: you’ve got a funky modern design firm. Though every piece in this offbeat store is for sale, the space essentially functions as a showroom designed to stimulate design ideas for customized furniture that staff will construct. Inspired by a modern contemporary sensibility, the Evolving Surface steel coffee table with a rustic top costs $500 to $850. Mirrors in bright colours include a pink sun and a blue martian ($225); a curved wood bench with stainless steel legs ($650) is a futuristic piece. Brushed stainless steel shelves ($50–$75 per linear foot) can be customized to fit any space.

Hours:
Queen, Tu–Th 10–6, F 11–7, Sa 10–6; showroom by appt.
