It’s not every day that you walk into a shop and are greeted by a parrot. The four birds at this quirky Leslieville discovery are a big draw, offering wisecracks (“What, you again?”) to customers and whistling familiar tunes (the theme from Hockey Night in Canada, for one). The birds are worth seeing, but the shop’s raison d’être is a good selection of vintage furniture. Sample offerings include a walnut four-drawer dresser, circa 1935 ($345), a white and chrome bar from the ’60s ($295) and an 1870 gold-finished wood and plaster Victorian mirror ($195). Smaller items include retro china sets (cup, saucer and side plate, $15). In summer, outdoor pieces—including wicker or wrought iron patio furniture—are sold in the leafy courtyard. The “Retro Lower Level” will disappoint anyone expecting a disco ball, but there are quality finds—old sofas, dining room tables, lamps—if you dig for them.
