The clothes at this Mirvish Village frock shop are anything but mass casual. Collector Ashlene Roberts scours Toronto in search of the “lost dresses of the ’70s.” Her team steam cleans the finds and a tailor mends any flaws. From streetwise tweens to drag queens, customers look for one-of-a-kind dresses for everyday wear ($30–$100) or glam nights ($100–$200). Roberts doesn’t care about designer labels—a funky vibe is more important. Typical are ’50s-style evening wear ($50–$200) with silk chiffon and crinoline underneath or ’80s-style light polyester or cotton dresses. With forgiving cuts and a preferred tailor two-doors down, the stock caters to a variety of body types.
