The no-frills discount chain stocks its shelves with items from “distress situations” such as factory overruns, ends of lines and bankruptcy sales. For deal hunters, this means brand name merchandise at bargain basement prices. Almost every kind of product imaginable finds its way into the shop, from vacuum cleaners to luggage sets, stereo equipment to kitchen appliances and tools. You can even get clothing and accessories. Recent bargains have included Cuisinart programmable coffee makers for $65 (regularly $120); irons by Black & Decker for $17.99 (regularly $39.99) and hand-held vacuum cleaners by Dirt Devil for $28.88. Some products are labelled “refurbished” (meaning they were returned to the manufacturer and inspected—and in some cases repaired) before XS Cargo bought them to resell. However, more than half the items in the store are covered by warranty.
