A hybrid grocery–department store chain, RCS is Loblaw’s attempt to claw back market share from Wal-Mart and Costco. If the merchandising seems a bit disjointed at times (you might start in the frozen food aisle and end up at a rack of undies), the stylish PC line of home furnishings makes up for it. Developed by Club Monaco–Caban founder Joe Mimran, the modern, simply designed range covers kitchen, bath, linens and small furnishings. Bathroom fittings are especially covetable: chrome hotel-style towel racks are $9.99 and $19.99; plush waffle and ribbed towels start at $8. For a modern table setting, look for the tatami-like placemats ($6.99) and creamy, neutral dinnerware ($4–$10 per piece). The electronics department is also worth investigating: on one visit, a 27-inch Toshiba flat screen could be had for $349.98.
