Comprising nooks, crannies and seemingly secret passageways, Addison’s is the Old Curiosity Shop of the home improvement world. And its selection of ancient and outlandish items—mostly heating and plumbing supplies—add to the character. For home renovations, it’s a great place for authentic old-school pieces. On the main floor, an antique cannon and a French soldier statue from a bygone era stand guard over the claw-footed tubs and pedestal sinks (from $200 each). Fittings include original brass and chrome-plated towel bars ($25–$40), replacement feet for tubs and toilet tank lids ($25–$40 each). In the gritty basement, there is row upon row of decommissioned hot water radiators ($100–$500). For fun, poke around the upper level, where random period objects (old luggage, a ’50s baby carriage, a wooden boat) hang from the ceiling.
