When it comes to outlet shopping, consistency in quality is rare. Take the Bombay Company’s cluttered discount store in Dixie Mall. Its stock occasionally lacks inspiration (it’s a mix of clearance from other stores as well as their own outlet items, all marked at around 20 per cent off), but for savvy shoppers it can be a gold mine. It’s good for stocking up on gifts, such as Landingham dishware ($49 for a set of 16) or a Waggoner wall clock ($249), or to score exotic-contemporary accessories: a mahogany magazine rack (from $69), a bamboo-framed mirror ($97, down from $399) or a faux-mahogany plant stand ($39). The as-is section offers slightly scratched end tables for $74, down from $249.
