Dream of designer labels but can’t afford the price tags? L’Elegante takes only immaculate items (less than two years old) on consignment, and sells them for about one-third of the original price. Items range from trendy (a woven metallic silver belt for $15) to sumptuous (an Armani cashmere coat at $1,400—regularly $5,000-plus; a brown monogrammed Louis Vuitton purse at $299—down from about $900). Glam items include furs and evening gowns from such high-profile designers as Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Prada, Jil Sander, Chanel, Escada, Missoni, Etro and Burberry. Shoppers are also invited to start a customer profile or “want list”: when desired items arrive, staff will put them aside, as long as they are picked up that day.
