Thrifty shutterbugs are in luck. Henry’s, the photography superstore, has opened a discount offshoot. Frequented by seasoned professionals and novice snappers alike, it boasts crowd-pleasing appeal: top-of-the-line brands (Canon, Nikon, Pentax), bargain prices and an amiable sales team. Whether demonstrating the Olympus E-300 body ($399, used) or a Manfrotto 190X ProB trip, ($225, open box), staff avoids the hard sell in favour of an informative approach. What’s more, despite the store’s status as a clearance warehouse, the display cases are immaculate. Costs are low because the inventory, which filters in from Henry’s 20-plus locations across the province, is used or open-box. But quality is assured: wares are refurbished and (almost) as good as new. The huge savings—from about $50 to over $1,400—allow you to splurge on frills (such as a pair of Bushnell Porro Prism Binoculars) and still have money left for processing your photographs. New merchandise arrives in the store daily.
