Arguably the city's best specialty bookstore, this inviting, airy spot has been a compulsory destination for performing arts undergrads, professionals and aficionados alike for the past three decades. The proprietors stock an extensive collection—both in-store and on-line—of international plays in English (a trio of Tom Stoppard's The Coast of Utopia works; Federico Garcia Lorca's Blood Wedding) with a special focus on Canadian writers (d'bi.young's blood.claat; Michael Redhill's Goodness). Not content to restrict itself to playwriting, however, the store devotes a sizable section to other aspects of the craft, from theatre production to education to administration. Opera, dance, television and filmmaking also get more than their fair share of attention; in addition, the shop hosts regular play readings, book launches and talks—one of the more famous being the 2000 launch of the late Timothy Findley's penultimate play and GG Award winner, Elizabeth Rex.
