Kitty-corner from what was once North York City Hall, this black box of a store gives no outward sign of the trove within. One 30-foot wall of bins is given over to pop CDs—new and used, current and vintage—from Broken Social Scene to early Céline Dion. New back-catalogue discs are generally $5 to $8 cheaper than you’d find in the chain stores; used CDs in mint-condition typically cost between $4.99 and $11.99. Vinyl focuses on rarities and imports. Rock and metal are the shop’s bread and butter, but the second-hand jazz section is also strong. Blues bins are deep in B. B. King and John Lee Hooker. Also well-stocked are metal, rap, R&B and indie, plus soundtracks, musicals, country and classical music, as well as second-hand DVDs.
