Moog Audio–Slinky Music

Specializing in “music to move your feet to,” Slinky Music avoids the chart-topping stuff in favour of carefully chosen hip hop, soul, jazz, reggae, rock, electronica and world music. By buying in bulk, owner Paul Azevedo is able to sell at a discount (there isn’t a standard markdown, but you’ll likely save the tax). He also carries vinyl; DJs can compare purchases at the in-house espresso bar. Techie types head to Moog Audio, where shiny DJ and production equipment goes for unbeatable prices—recent examples include Shur headphones for $171 and an Allen & Heath dj mixer, usually $699, going for $499. For a blowout, the store rents out party systems (turntables, mixer, speakers and cables, from $60 a night). “It’ll be loud and sound good,” says owner Francis Delage. “We’ve got your whole party, minus the booze.”
