No shy and retiring bookstore, this one positively flaunts its bargains. The majority of its stock—an intelligent selection of used books that ranges from Homer to P. D. James—sells for 50 per cent less than the cover price. On the sales tables at the front, hundreds of new hardcovers and trade paperbacks are drastically marked down. Past deals have included copies of Anna Karenina, One Hundred Years of Solitude and On the Road, all for less than $10. By the front door, worn paperbacks sell for as little as $1. DVDs and videotapes are also available.
