Named after a rare breed of owl found in the surrounding woods, this family-owned course was designed by Ray Patterson and opened in 1983. A collection of mature trees makes for more than idyllic scenery; forgiving fairways and generous lies also make it a good track on which to practise your swing. Decent conditioning and fairly flat terrain are gentle on high handicappers—expect slow play as duffers take their sweet time and extra shots. One of the more difficult holes is the par five 16th. An accurate tee shot is mandatory, as there is marshy fescue on the left-hand side. At 470 yards from the tips, it’s definitely reachable in two for long-ball hitters. Sand traps are sparse, and the only water is a lake on the par three 15th, which really shouldn’t come into play.

18 holes, 6,539 yards, par 71
