It should come as no surprise that a company with the heft and ambition of KaneffGolf can conjure a course such as Royal Ontario almost out of thin air. What is unexpected, however, is that the course can be dropped into such a powerful landscape so seamlessly. Ted Baker’s Milton marvel was nothing but blueprints a little more than five years ago; now the 7,000-yard tree-lined hill-fest is the kind of “natural looking” course even wary old pros rave about. The par fives of holes nine and 18 mirror each another, winding around a large lake, ensuring both righties and lefties will have at least one drive that’ll make their knees knock. The 18th (at 609 yards) is all anyone can handle, and even big hitters will have to work in order to hit a mid-iron to a serviceable layup position.
