Another Doug Carrick layout, Osprey’s Hoot is not what you’d expect from the prolific designer. The front nine has a North Carolina high-country feel, rising and dipping among the green-grey hills and slicing through dense pine groves. Carrick stomps on the accelerator from the first tee: a par five (545 yards), it’s lined on both sides with trees, waste bunkers and water that washes up to the edge of the green. On the lengthy 472-yard, par four fifth, hit a high fade to catch the slope; an eight or nine is all you’ll need when aiming at the bunkered green. Carrick finally eases off at the 11th hole, another par five. At 530 yards, it has a large landing area, which allows you to be a bit loose off the tee. The course grabs you again at the 17th, a classic risk-reward hole, with a 240-yard carry over water. The 18th hole ensures that this time around the South will win the war. A pond and a beach bunker come into play off the tee, and even if you catch it on the screws, the approach shot is 200 yards to an elevated green protected by water on the right side.

18 holes, 7,091 yards, par 72
