Country cousins such as Hockley Valley and Osprey Valley score all the attention and accommodate most of the serious golf tourists in the area. That leaves unglamorous courses such as this to provide green sustenance to the local enthusiasts. Subsequently, you’ll find that through the week you will need little more than an hour and a half for a dash around this nine-hole course. While most of the layout looks and feels like a municipal course (it isn’t), the final three holes resemble a legitimate test. Though short, at less than 520 yards, the par five seventh carves a tight path through 100-year-old forest. No matter where you hit the ball, be assured that there will be a wall of trees either at your back or up against your nose. You get a terrific view of that chute from the eighth tee, a devilish 154-yard downhill par three. Though you have to layup off the tee at nine (373 yards, par four), your approach shot will please your eye—if not your scorecard.
