Cutting through the countryside below the Niagara Escarpment, this Rene Muylaert design is a good choice for beginners or golfers practising their short game. Pin placements are tight, often dropped near bunkers (of which there are 90). Number seven is one of the more treacherous tests on the course. Landing your drive on the fairway is essential: stray too far right and a trio of traps awaits. (If those hazards aren’t enough, check out the pond along the right side, just in front of the green.) The back nine is 280 yards shorter than the front and features six par threes, five to be played back to back. These invite players to dawdle, which can slow the game. The tees are a little rough, and greens are sluggish and occasionally bumpy.
