Lionhead Golf & Country Club, The Mastersstarstarstarstarstar

When Lionhead made its splashy debut in 1991, the club was the first in Canada to offer the tony country club experience at a public facility. Such early guests as Michael Jordan and Arnold Palmer reinforced the notion that Lionhead was the place to play. But in the nearly two decades since, a couple of dozen high-end public courses have sprung up in the GTA, stealing the club’s exclusivity. The Masters, which is considered the “kinder, gentler” course at Lionhead, still has plenty of bite and water carries. The scariest is the 16th, an infamous par five punctuated by a green wrapped with water.
