The 36 holes of Hidden Lake wander along 500 acres of countryside plateau atop the Niagara Escarpment, away from the suburban sprawl of nearby Burlington. The Old course is classic parkland, with narrow fairways cut through lines of tall, old trees. Holes 14 through 17 are the most dramatic, as you skirt the edge of the escarpment; balls lost to the right may roll all the way down the wooded hillside to Lake Medad (the eponymous “hidden lake”). The New course is more forgiving, although not during the week, when it is used as a qualifying course for the Canadian Open. Other than the rough halfway to your knees, and the handful of well-placed ponds, the trickiest obstacle on the New course may be the warped, rickety bridge on 15. Recent additions include a GPS service for measuring your distance from the hole, and a new set of black tees, which have extended the length of several holes. The ninth on the New course is now a monster 221-yard par three that is all carry across a beaver-infested pond to a well-bunkered and severely undulating green.

36 holes. New: 18 holes, 6,645 yards, par 72. Old: 18 holes, 6,622 yards, par 71
