Set right beside the Niagara Escarpment, Granite Ridge offers the kind of golf most duffers should play more often. The Cobalt and Ruby are a mix of the old and the relatively new, but both offer the same tests and rewards, and newer holes have grown in enough to be indistinguishable from old. Regulars will tell you that the Cobalt is tougher, longer and wetter, but the difference is of degree, not character. Rather than a collection of ego-busting par fives masquerading as par fours, both layouts have their share of holes in the 350-yard range, offering a fair chance for the bogey golfer to putt for birdie. Still, these courses aren’t pushovers. Monster holes include Cobalt’s 576-yard, par five seventh, where a pond pinches the landing area for your third shot to near-nothingness, even though you absolutely have to be within wedge range to be confident of holding the shallow, raised, bunkered green. Conditioning is good and greens have the contours, bunkering and slickness found at higher-end courses.

36 holes. Cobalt: 18 holes, 6,546 yards, par 72. Ruby: 18 holes, 6,004 yards, par 70
