Derrydale Golf Coursestarstar

Designed as an 18-hole course by Rene Muylaert in 1970, Derrydale was converted into nine holes in 2006 and again into 12 holes in 2010. Like most executive layouts, it has an emphasis on shotmaking, with nine tee shots requiring you to navigate water. The par threes range from 101 to 186 yards; the par fours are all legitimate, requiring either precise tee shots with long irons or high-risk, high-reward drives at the green. The par four ninth, though just 293 yards from the blocks, will tempt you to hit a driver, but hit it well, as the creek in front of the green will gobble up anything shorter than 260. The fourth is the sternest test on the course, and at 415 yards it demands a well-hit drive. A day of decent ball striking should yield the kind of score that prompts delusions of adequacy (you should break 40!). A mature yet well-maintained track, the shorter course’s unfortunate drawback is that with half as many holes to play, it can get crowded.
