This course, designed by Rene Muylaert more than 40 years ago, is worth the drive. Here, golfers aiming to score well must strategize, factoring in water (the Credit River is in play on three holes), hills (the course is routed through valleys and across plateaus) and the bordering forest. Although the length will pose no problem for average or better hitters, the mere ability to reach greens in regulation is not enough to guarantee a low round. Fairways are narrow and unforgiving; you will need accuracy off the tee and control as you approach the greens, most of which slope back to front. At the 567-yard par five 17th, for example, you’ll be hitting an uphill second shot to a green well guarded by traps. Particularly nasty is the 327-yard, par four seventh—uphill all the way to a fast, undulating green that will guide errant shots into the surrounding three bunkers. If you’re good enough to keep the approach shot below the hole, you’ll do fine.
