BraeBen Golf Coursestarstarstarstar

In June 2005, the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel unveiled BraeBen Golf Course. Plunked in the heart of a busy subdivision, it was built on the former Britannia landfill site; the methane gas bubbling below the fairways is now being converted into electricity. Designed by architect Ted Baker, BraeBen is a links-influenced layout full of humps and hollows, bounded by heavy fescue and gnarly thistles. It sweeps around the edges of the former mountain of refuse, climbing above the surrounding backyards; the highest points offer views of Lake Ontario and downtown Toronto. The $13-million project also includes a fine nine-hole academy course. Nearly 1,400 yards long, the par 27 is a good spot for beginners and experienced players looking to work on their short games.
