Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2008, this family-run course offers three picturesque nines: Homestead, Middle and Lakeland. Thanks to the foresight of the current owners’ forefather, “Pop” Nisbet (who bought the original 200 acres back in the 1940s), Westview has remained a homey operation for the past half-century. The club used to not even accept tee times, but that has changed. With mature pine, cedar, oak and willow trees throughout the Middle and Lakeland nines, the course is a challenging test, with great routing and interesting holes. The fourth on Middle is a long par five with a wide-open fairway that slopes downhill and then back up to an elevated green. The fifth is a nifty par three, 212 yards from the tips, where you shoot from an elevated tee down to a tight green in the valley, guarded by a trap in the back right. The only complaint is that with three nines, play is slow on weekends. The course offers great value (not far from Toronto) and spectacular views of the surrounding Oak Ridges Moraine and its fertile farmland, so if you’ve got the time, it’s a pleasant walk in the park.

27 holes. Lakeland: nine holes, 3,441 yards, par 36. Middle: nine holes, 3,375 yards, par 36. Homestead: nine holes, 3,270 yards, par 36
