Opened in 1974 and built on rolling farmland, this country course is a mere 40 minutes northeast of Toronto. Bushwood offers good value and good golf, though there are no truly memorable or inspiring holes. The course opens with a short and straight 400-yard par four, giving a glimpse of what’s to come. With most par fours coming in at less than 400 yards, and just three par fives, the course isn’t overly challenging for the low handicapper. Small greens, especially on the back nine, raise the degree of difficulty slightly, as Duffins Creek (which runs throughout) cuts across 12 of the 18 fairways. The par four 17th is the most testing, with a large pond extending just past the tee box across the left edge of the fairway. At 386 yards, the par four also features a green guarded by a trio of strategically placed traps. Bushwood offers a 1,600-yard, par 31 Executive course that is the perfect spot for parent and child to hit the ball around on a Saturday afternoon. At $15 during the week, and only an extra loonie on the weekend, it’s a bargain that can’t be beat. The club’s golf academy is another selling point; led by certified CPGA instructors, this highly rated instruction facility hosts both adult clinics and junior camps.
