In the buttoned-down world of golf, John Daly is an unlikely folk hero: his battles with booze, collection of ex-wives and substantial waistline have only served to boost his fame. And his grip-it-and-rip-it style has made him one of the most popular golfers of all time. A two-time Major winner, Daly has now turned his considerable talents to golf course design and, along with Canadian architect Bo Danoff, produced Thundering Waters. Located about 1,500 yards from the spray of the Falls, the course opened in August 2005; Daly kicked off the festivities by trying—unsuccessfully—to whack a ball across the Niagara gorge from Canada to the U.S. Mostly flat, the first 14 holes of the course cut through corridors of hardwood trees; the final four have a more exposed, British Open feel that is heavy on the fescue and mounds. Long John has done a good job of tucking the greens behind heavy bunkering or water to give the course extra bite. There are five sets of tees for each hole. Daly disciples will be glad to know their guru has included one gargantuan par five: the second hole is a staggering 637 yards from the Daly tees.

18 holes, 7,208 yards, par 72
