Wolf Run Golf Clubstarstar½

It’s easy to see how the Wolf got its ferocious name: the opening 615-yard par five is a menacing sight. The rest of the course, filled with abrupt doglegs, is also challenging. The eighth hole (a 260-yard par four) is a perfect example: the green is not visible from the tee, since the hole is a 90-degree dogleg to the left, obscured by trees and a garden. The strategy on this hole is to hit 150 yards straight out from the tee, aiming at the fairway bunker. Try for the top or bottom of the hill, leaving yourself a short iron approach, but be forewarned: this is easier said than done. The par four 14th is equally difficult; your grandmother’s sewing lessons should come in handy as you try to thread the needle through a swath of woods—the approach to the green is partially blocked by a fairway tree.

18 holes, 6,725 yards, par 72
