Watson’s Glen Golf Coursestarstarstar

With its challenging links-style design, Watson’s Glen’s championship course could be a tourney fave but for the one item remaining on general manager Donna Watson’s wish list: a clubhouse. Designed by Kevin Holmes, the six-year-old course is in superb shape, with bent grass, 11 ponds and—count ‘em—90 sandy bunkers (prepare to pitch an umbrella). The greens are fast, like putting on ice, and undulate with near absurdity on holes two to six—over-putt and the ball will actually roll back toward you. Close the round with the signature hole, a 563-yard par five surrounded by water. It greets you off the tee on the right, and dissects the long, narrow fairway just before it doglegs right around its source: a giant lake. Reach the bunker-hugged green in three? You’re scratch.
