Ask the friendly staff if anything is new here and the answer is as straightforward as the course: “Nope, nothing.” Seaton is old school and likes to keep it that way. This is really two courses in one. About half the course—the first six holes and three on the back nine (the 10th, 17th and 18th)—is as flat as the proverbial cow pasture. Things get more delicate beginning with the 420-yard, par four seventh, as the course meanders up, down and around, through the woods and back and forth across the Rouge River. If you can manage to survive the seventh, a sharp dogleg with your first forced carry, you might consider laying up in front of the massive bunker that fronts the eighth hole, rather than take your chances stopping a ball on the green from 230 yards away. The par three 12th and 15th holes require a bold strike to carry the valley and find the smallish greens. Pars are well-earned.
