Royal Ashburn Golf Clubstarstarstarstar

Perennially ranked among the top 50 public courses in Canada, Royal Ashburn has plenty going for it: it’s bucolic, meticulously maintained and handily located just 45 minutes northeast of Toronto. With a variety of tee blocks, it also offers a good test for weekend hackers and aspiring pros alike—in fact, it has hosted the Canadian Tour Fall Qualifier for the past 35 years. And there are plenty of scenic distractions: approaching the first tee, you are struck by the beautiful gardens that flank the opening hole. Lynde Creek winds throughout, providing an added hazard in front of many of the greens and across some fairways. Number seven is a testy par three to an elevated green; club selection is key here. One of the prettiest holes is the par three 13th, which is in a valley. With the creek surrounding its green, you’ll have to cross an arched bridge to get to the undulating putting surface.

18 holes, 7,021 yards, par 72
