Oakridge Golf Clubstarstarstar½

A hidden gem near Port Perry in the Durham region, this course was venerated Canadian architect Thomas McBroom’s first design. Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2008, the challenging and well-kept course, which is situated in the Oak Ridges Moraine, was first carved out of a gravel pit. With bent grass fairways and slick greens, Oakridge offers great golf at an even better price. The course provides golfers with scenic views at every turn, with many elevation changes throughout the round. Each hole has its own name, which adds to the personal feel. Oakridge opens with a short par four marked by a large pond guarding the left side of the green; walk away with a par and you’ve done well. With 60 bunkers, you will also be hard-pressed to avoid spending some time in the beach during your round. Tight fairways and quick greens add to the difficulty of a course that at first glance looks easy. With miles of mature trees, including majestic pines and oaks, well-manicured gardens and vistas of the rolling farmland surrounding the course, Oakridge is an enjoyable walk and a pleasant surprise for first-timers.
