Down a dirt road northeast of Markham lies this Rene Muylaert design, built in 1968. The well-manicured course opens with a straight 508-yard par five marked by two tall trees, which resemble goalposts, framing the green 150 yards out. At first glance, it looks like an easy par, but four fairway traps and another three bunkers around the green make for a tough start. The second hole, a dogleg right, goes up to a tricky elevated three-tiered green. Some advice: play it safe with a mid-iron off the tee, rather than pulling out the driver. Two holes (the fifth and 16th) each feature two stand-alone greens, allowing the superintendent to mix these par threes up, so you could get a different hole each time you play. The sixth features a fairway that funnels to a green guarded by a trio of treacherous traps. The 15th is a short par four, where it’s best to hit a high iron off the elevated tee down to the landing area. This wooded walk ends with a relatively easy par five that features a pair of pretty willows framing the back of the green. At 464 yards from the white tees, it’s reachable in two, and a potential birdie is not a bad way to end the round.
