Around since the mid-1970s, this quaint course lies on the north shore of the Trent-Severn Waterway. On the first three holes, designer Rene Muylaert has thrown out a clutch of mid-range par fours—each measuring 343 to 368 yards—with wide-open fairways and large, bunker-free greens. Things get more interesting soon after. The number one stroke hole is the fifth, a tight 365-yard dogleg that unravels through forest. Aim for the right side of the fairway to avoid a copse of tall trees 100 yards out; a mid-iron will easily find the large back-to-front green. Western Trent plays much like the nearby waterway—slow and easy.
