Over the past couple of years, the Collingwood region has become the new Muskoka. Boomers and their families are flooding the area to sail on Georgian Bay, ski on the escarpment and tee it up on the growing number of courses. This two-year-old club is home to the 2008 Wayne Gretzky Classic. The course is owned by Intrawest and has great credentials: the design is a successful collaboration between ’06 Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman and Canadian architect Tom McBroom. The gorgeous site zigzags along Nipissing Ridge, just above the curling waves of Georgian Bay. Lehman and McBroom have worked hard to incorporate the property’s existing features: the natural contours of the rolling farmland create drama, original barns have been preserved, and an apple orchard comes into play on the 14th hole. In the end, though, it’s the views of the bay that make the course—especially the 15th, a 195-yard par three. The tee is tucked into the bluff and the hole sweeps down to a green that looks as if it will be swallowed up by the blue water.

18 holes, 7,200 yards, par 72
