The Club at Bond Head (North Course)starstarstarstar½

Unlike the South Course, its links-style older brother, which opened on Canada Day 2006, is more of a North American parkland course. The debate here will be whether architects Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry got the most out of a spectacular property, featuring rolling hills, marshland and a winding creek. Certainly the views from the highest peaks are bracing, and the holes are challenging and distinctive, but the course seems to be almost continuously uphill. There are no holes with the kind of spectacular elevated tees seen at Copper Creek. Instead, you often find yourself climbing skyward to a green that feels almost lost in the clouds. The sixth, a 349-yard par four, is one of the steepest uphill holes you’ll ever see, and the 17th (a long par five) will have you searching for an oxygen mask. Still, the North is a mostly glorious adventure in golf, requiring long carries off the tees, blind approaches and accurate iron shots into greens.
