Only by the most liberal of definitions is Simoro, owned and operated by the Sherlock family, a links course. There’s no major body of water nearby, not much rough to speak of, and most of the back nine is cut through dense forest. Despite the lack of frills, it’s still an enjoyable course. The front nine is relatively wide open, and even the wildest hitters can pull the cover off the driver on three, five and six; lose a ball on one of these holes and it’s time to consider lawn bowling. Once you make the turn, you’d better start hitting it straight. On the downhill par three seventh, aim a few yards right of the green and hit one less club than you think you need. Beginning at the par four 12th, the course cuts through a score-destroying forest. The best hole is the 14th, a long, narrow par five that sweeps downhill to the right to a tightly guarded green. You would be well advised to ponder your strategy before you hit your second shot here.
