It’s a fair hike to this golf course at the edge of Lake Simcoe, but charms await. You can pretty much park on the first tee, and the restaurant serves a flawless breakfast for less than $5. The golf is pleasant too. Bracketed by a pair of par threes, the course isn’t too long, and for the most part it’s fairly simple—with a few notable exceptions. The par four fourth is 422 yards and requires a considerable carry off the tee to a narrow fairway; that’s only an appetizer for the par three sixth. At 162 yards, it requires a well-hit mid-iron to split the narrow stand of trees lining the hole and then carry the moat in front of the green. Don’t go long, as it’s wet back there, too. There’s a wooden bridge along the length of the hole, with off-ramps to the forward tees; the bridge lets you off in front of the water hazard to reload for the artful flop shot you’ll need to play if your tee ball drowned. The hole, including the rustic bridge, is typical of the course: it requires more deftness than might, but generally lets you down easily. If not, there’s always breakfast.
