Muskoka Bay Golf Clubstarstarstarstarstar

This 280-acre project may be the best golf course community in the entire country. Spearheaded by Toronto condo developer Peter Freed, Muskoka Bay officially opened to much acclaim in 2006, and is driving house sales in the area. The terrific Doug Carrick–designed course free-falls from rocky-topped tees through heavily treed valleys and wetlands, then rises to elevated greens that slope away to sand. The ninth hole plays across a fen to a sliver of fairway that is squeezed tighter than a corset by huge chunks of granite. For the inaugural season, the club made do with a temporary clubhouse; the permanent 17,000-square-foot facility, which peers out over the first and 18th greens, opened in July 2009.
