Mark O'Meara Course at Grandview Golf Clubstarstarstarstarstar

Several blind tee shots over menacing rock faces put off many newcomers to this Huntsville course, which opened in 2001. But two or three outings is all it takes to appreciate the seamless layout. Co-designed by Mark O’Meara (1998 Masters and British Open champion) and renowned Cleveland-based golf architect Brit Stenson, the course cuts through the stunning scenery above Fairy Lake and, at more than 7,000 yards, is plenty long enough for grip-it-and-rippers. But it is also a thinker’s course: O’Meara wove in plenty of creeks, beaver ponds and giant slashes of granite. The 17th is the perfect example; just 303 yards long, the par four is cinched in the middle by half a dozen bunkers, and the green is wrapped with rock and sand. The smart money is to play a long iron shot short of the trouble, but big hitters can’t resist trying to drive the green. Golfers must be ClubLink members or stay at the Delta Grandview Resort to play.
