With wider fairways winding through two modern subdivisions, Highlands lacks much of the Valley’s woodsy, northern magic—plus, it has one of Ontario’s worst starting holes. Number one used to be a reasonable dogleg par four until golfers started hooking their Titleists into the new condominium down the left side. To save the windows of this poorly planned residence, tees were moved up and the hole turned into an uphill par three—the end result is so dull that you may want to turn and aim at the condo anyway. New in 2002, the back nine is still maturing, but it offers some challenging and visually arresting holes.

18 holes, 7,016 yards, par 71
