The front nine, with its mix of interesting holes and magnificent vistas, is a delight. However, the delight soon turns to bewilderment on the back nine, as the course wanders into a lowland forest. Here, you’ll be scratching your head on at least three holes, where the tee blocks seem to be pointed directly into the trees. (Just hit a seven-iron and pray.) On the 16th is a stand of mature pine and spruce, sitting in the middle of what is supposed to be the fairway. There is some relief at 18, when once again you’re taken near the top of the mountain and the entire hole is laid out before you. Though the course is rather short, even good players will find the narrow, crowned greens challenging.
