The modern game is all about length. Fortunately, Pinestone is a throwback to the days when golf was more Albert Einstein than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Holes are wrapped tightly by an evergreen forest, so par is all about placement off the tee—if you can hit a three-iron with any consistency, you should be fine. The 18th hole is a perfect example: a 383-yard par four, it doglegs slightly to the left. Trying to bomb it over the corner only results in balls being knocked down by the white pine on the right side or bouncing off the roofs of the chalets on the edge of the fairway. The correct choice is a five wood with a little draw around the bend, giving players a mid-iron into a generous, back-to-front-sloping two-tiered green fronted by a pond. A course overhaul has resulted in the resurfacing of 16 greens, as well as newly positioned tees.

18 holes, 6,024 yards, par 71
