Deerhurst Lakeside Golf Coursestarstarstar½

This layout is the right choice for families, beginners and good golfers who want to sneak in a round in less than three hours. Originally designed in the 1960s by Robbie Robinson, the Lakeside layout was retooled in 1990 by Tom McBroom, who curled the front nine around a pretty stretch of Peninsula Lake and routed it through a couple of valleys. Almost 4,600 yards long, the course is made up of nine par threes, eight par fours and a single par five. The toughest challenges are the par threes from the back tees. The second is a 201-yarder that starts at an elevated tee, then runs along the banks of Sunset Bay to a green that gets swept by the wind slicing off the water. The 18th hole is shorter, just 162 yards from the tips, but even trickier. The tee is tucked in a nook of the bay; to reach the green, players have to hit a draw over the wet stuff.

18 holes, 4,596 yards, par 64
